Hon. Colonial Treasurer,

By an oversight I find that the $100 allowance to the Magistrate, New Territory, has not this month appeared on the pay sheets. This was due chiefly to a doubt as to how it should be entered. It was "allowance in nature of salary" and I would ask whether I am entitled to the amount while acting in another post where no half pay is available ?

Hon. Colonial Secretary,

What is your opinion? You might look up

(Sa) A. M. Thomson, Treasurer.

5th. June, 1902.

Hon. Colonial Treasurer,

The allowance is clearly in my opinion meant for the man who does the work and Mr. Wood should get it (see Mr. Lockhart's minute of 15th. April) if he has been doing the work. But if he has been sending all but petty cases to Hong -kong then I think even he should only get a portion if any of the allowance.

I propose to enquire further respecting

this latter point.

IV.

Your Excellency,

(Sa) E. H. May.

Colonial Secretary.

6th. June, 1902.

Mr. Wood should get the $100 a month since

date of his appointment (1st. May, 1902).

Colonial Secretary.

11th. June, 1902.
